Is the MBP still experiencing the 1/3 yellowish thingy?

i think a lot of people have perfectly fine macbook pros. some probably can't tell if they have the yellow tint issue, and others probably just don't care. the colors on my macbook pro didn't look so great at first, but a quick calibration made things look better. i don't have any yellow tinting on the bottom, none that i can tell anyway, and i'm very happy with my machine. be confident in your purchase.
I got a brand new MBP last week & it is flawless. Probably the best looking screen on any laptop that I've ever owned!!

I've had mine now for over a week and nothing wrong with it at all, perfect screen. Like the post above, this is easily the most beautiful screen of any laptop or notebook I have ever owned.
I cant say 100%, but i feel pretty confident that the screen issues are either gone, or almost non existant anymore.

It is early technology using LED as a backlit method on such a big screen. Colours will appear distorted from viewing it at angles - but who views their laptop from 45'?
Remember early laptop screens (most mobile phones, cameras with screens etc) had really bad viewing angles - you'd move your head up ever so slightly and the screen would suddenly get a lot darker or lighter?
The MBP screen is perfect - it was designed for being viewed straight on, because, like that's how you're meant to use it.
I've noted two causes of this phenomena:
1. The natural limitations of the TN LCD technology combined with a yellow-phosphor LED backlight.
2. The Apple-supplied color profile is unusually warm with a slight green push.
Once properly calibrated, the new MBPs look fantastic from straight on (bright, crisp whites) and only exhibit a slight yellow tint from the sides.
my new 15'' macbook pro has a perfect screen.no yellowish or whatever...even i read all the posts about the problem..but i simply didnt care and got the machine.
I've had mine for around a month now. The screen is calibrated and I've run tests determine whether the screen has dead pixels or showing a yellow strip at the bottom.
The screen AND the computer is running and looking great. It's as close to perfect as I would expect -- with the exception that it needed more RAM (done) and a larger/faster HD (soon to be done).

I got a new Macbook pro 15" (LG display) a few days ago. Ordered mine at 22 of july arrived the 2nd of aug.
I must say the angle of view is very very narrow. I calibrated the screen manual and with Monaco XR. After color-meter calibration, the color balance is more and less like my 24" dell LCD display. ( checked with some reference pictures)
If I look at my older Dell Latitude laptop, I really don't see an LCD improvement, just the opposite, the view angle on the Dell is better with a simular color gamut.
If you look at the display with an angle from the top I see a strong blue cast, if I look at it from an angle at the bottom I see a strong orange cast.
The orange cast is always a little bit visual in light grey areas (like you see in this forum greys). even looking straight on.

-look at the extreem angle pictures. (moving my head a little bit up down shows already a slide color cast also).
-look at the straight on picture for the light fall off at the bottom.
Please could somebody shows similar picture with the same angle and straight on, with white on the bottom?

i got one at the weekend, and it does have the yellow tinge thing, but it seems to disappear once the screen has been lit for a while. it's only really apparent on boot, and block colour backgrounds. I might take it in to see if I can get the screen replaced, but it goes after a while so I'm not too bothered.
other than that, I am INCREDIBLY impressed with the MBP. Bootcamp's support for Windows, (what can I say, I love Half Life 2!!) is excellent. Definitely be confident that you'll get a quality machine if you get one. I couldn't be happier with mine

I believe that's just the compression of the file to reduce file size. It's not your monitor. (well your monitor could have an problem in addition, I don't know, but washed-out results you see from "save for web" are a compression thing, not the monitor's) Try regular "save as" for anything important enough that you don't want that washed out look in.
No, it's got something to do with the color profiles in photoshop and the calibration of my monitor. I had the same problem on my Windows PC a year ago but I can't remember how I fixed it.

When you're a college student and you just downloaded a movie and watching with a bunch of friends on a MBP that was just recently bought? Atleast.. that would be my case...

Been there done that - didn't have any problems. You aren't going to be sitting right infront of the screen - we were about 4 feet back and viewing angle was perfect.
Click on
-> click on System Preferences -> Choose Displays -> Click on Color -> Click on Calibrate and follow the instructions.or download SuperCal from http://www.bergdesign.com/supercal/ and use it to calibrate your screen.
Because they are TN-panels, only Laptops you can get with IPS-panels are some modells of Lenovo T60 (and I think T61 and T62 but those are hard to find).
So basicly ****** display technology, but it's the same on more or less all laptops so there isn't much to do about it.
I went to the apple store today:
6 15" macbook pros
4 of them had samsung screens, and all of them on the bottom 1/3 had the yellowing.
2 LG screens had no such problems.
It is definitely not my mind as I decided in my mind: yellow or not before I looked it up.
I don't know what week these models were, though.
I am disappointed.
