Is the mbp supposed to be audible?

Both of my fans are reving at around 2000 rpm,,,is this normal? (new SR mbp). I can hear the machine and tell that it's on. Is it supposed to be dead silent? I just want to make sure it's within spec.

My highest temperature is 45oC, the GPU diode.

I believe 2000 is the minimum fan speed that the MBP is supposed to operate at. I work in fairly quiet environments and 2,000 is inaudible, 4,000 is barely perceivable by me.

Mine never goes below 50, revs up to 70, but after running the fan control program I manage to keep it at a low of 55, but I haven't tried anything intensive yet.

yes, isn't that beautifull?? you can hear the fans @ 2000 if you put your ear close to the speakers grille. everything is not so great, play a game or run some processor intensive stuff and you will definately hear the fans

Yes, the mbp is 'supposed' to be audible. It's a machine, with moving parts in it. It's damn quiet when it's not under load, but it's not silent. Very few computers are, and they tend to be specially designed as such. Even the quietest systems with passive cooling still tend to have slightly audible hard drives.

Well, mine is at 2000 rpm right now and is audible, although I am in a SILENT room. It sounds just like the whirring of the fans...I'm just so paranoid and really want to have a perfect mbp!
