Afternoon

Just out of interest, is the new Iphone due for launch in the summer finished/completed?

I don't really undestand the timescales on the Apple product launches but am intrigued to see if its completed?

There will be a beta version floating around by now. Steve prob has one at home for testing too but nothing in the wild.

A bit of searching around the forum will reveal:
1) iPhone updates are approximately yearly, in the Summer
2) NO one outside Apple knows when it is "finished" or what the specs are. However there are always Mac-Rumors.

1, I don't think that's what the op is asking. With 4ish months to go till it goes on sale there will be physical devices by now.

2, incorrect the iPhone has always been made by a third party so there will be alot of people who know what it has inside and what it looks like.

As I understand it (based on no real evidence, mind you) things like the iPhone start getting built about a month before they go on sale.

So you'd be looking at the end of April to maybe mid-May for when it needs to be "done." (And that's assuming a mid-to-late June launch date. Another guess!)

So as others said, no one here (meaning, macrumors) really KNOWS for sure. We can only guess based on clues.

I very much doubt that, the first most developers will know about it will be if a conference is held at the end of March (as normal) previewing the new iPhone OS.

Okay, smart guy, but they're not gonna squeal.

Apple does a great Job!

keeping everything secrete until WWDC or until Apple is ready to release it. I sure they are pretested before they are released. nothing ever seems to get out before it's official. though allot of people will claim inside information but there just educated guess & in some uneducated.

I'd assume the hardware is going to finalize by early March/Mid March. Then go through 1 to 1.5 months of testing/tweaking to make sure components play well.

By May or so, mass production would start.

These are all assumptions though - I also wish Apple or someone would talk about timelines of products from start to finish.

2 kinds of people

Regarding Apple pre-release product news there are 2 kinds of people: those who know but can't talk, and those who talk but don't know.

If you really know anything then you will have signed legal agreements that prohibit you from saying anything, and which are serious enough to get you to keep your mouth closed. (I've signed them in the past with various companies including Apple, and you would be a fool to ignore them, especially since those who get to sign these things have a vested interest in staying in the game.)

Of course there is always a tiny bit of leakage of real info, but it is almost impossible to distinguish it from speculation or fabrication. In short, there is not reliable information about upcoming long-term product plans or release dates.

4th gen iPhone in May or June?

So I have been hearing that the 4th gen iPhone is due in May or June... anyone have some "inside" info on this?

Loose a job?
No one here is affiliated with Apple
And no one here has inside knowledge

Video conferencing?
Not likely

There are a number of threads discussing the next generation of iPhone
You may want to browse them for info

Well this is the place for them to leak anything... google iphone forum... this site kills everything else

The earliest I think we will see it is mid to late July. WWDC is not until the last week of June/First week of July. Apple normally waits 2-3 weeks to release their products after introducing it. So IMO mid to late July.

Go look at the buyer's Guide or wiki.
Spot the trend?
WWDC in June - seem to announce products, too eh? Past events are not indicators of future ones only mere speculative patterns etc etc.

Threads like this, and the Arrandale one I guess are like saying "Are we there yet?" in a car on a journey... We know how long last time took - there might be traffic, a new route...

Video conferencing?
Not likely

Very likely now that there is factual evidence by trusted sources and tidbits of code and images that were found in the 3.2 SDK. in the telephony application file.

I still don't understand why everyone want's video calling/conferencing though..
