Is the new iPod touch a sign the 9.7 iPad won't be updated anytime soon?

With the new iPod touch using the A10 processor, the same as in the 9.7 inch iPad, could that be a sign that Apple won't be updating the 9.7 inch iPad? I have seen it in person and I don't mind the screen, but I would be more likely to buy if it at least got a processor bump, like getting the A11 processor. Any signs of the 9.7 inch iPad getting updated soon? Maybe WWDC?

The Earliest I can see the 9.7" iPad getting updated is March 2020. With such a large iPad lineup at the moment though it's hard to say what Apple will do next... we are in uncharted territory here.
