macOS Is the newest version of Java platform available for mac yet

I am thinking about getting an apple ibook, and a major contributing factor is that I need the newest version of the java platform available on the machine. A couple months ago I had looked into it and found that only the pc version was available yet. Has Sun released the apple version yet? I really would like to get the ibook

Nope ... still at 1.4.2

It will be available when Tiger (OS X 10.4) ships which is sometime between now and June 30. Most speculation (check elsewhere on this site) seems to be for April.
