Is the Nexus 7 2013 edition still a worthwhile buy?

I'm putting my gift list together and I'm looking for an Android tablet to play around with. Recently I came upon a good deal for the Nexus 7 2013 edition 32GB.

Given that the 7-inch model is no longer being produced, this appears to be the last in its line. My budget is 200 dollars, and I don't intend on playing any major games or do anything taxing.

Any opinions?

For what you do, it is perfectly acceptable. My only issue with the n7 2013 is battery. One day of 4-5 hours and you better put it on the charger. It is the best tablet at your price point. Also check the apple reburb store. They may have some iPad minis around that price.

I just looked for you. You can get an iPad mini 2 for $249 which is much better IMO

Fully agree, wasn't a fan of the Nexus 7 i found it too small but the battery life was the most disappointing thing for me.

I already have an iPad 4, but I'm not trying to switch to Android. I am merely looking for an Android device to toy with, but thank you for taking the time to look things up.

Yes. The reviews are so wrong. 4 hours with video playback and probably 7-8 web surfing.

To add compared to every other tablet I've owned, the battery drain i experienced during standby was horrendous. I would lose around 20-25% per day.

Honestly, it isn't a bad tablet, it performed very well, has a top notch screen and decent speakers. With that said, for all intents and purposes, its still the definition of a budget friendly tablet.

If you want an android device to play with, and don't care about screen size, why not go with a Moto G?
It's a phone but it's still excellent.

Just to play with then you can get an 8" Samsung for that cost.

The Nexus is too small and the battery as stated is a deterrent.

Thanks for the suggestion. Motorola devices are not on my list primarily because Motorola pulled out of where I live so I can't get any repair work in case anything breaks. I'm aiming for the 7-8-inch mark as something that's holdable with one hand, yet big enough that I don't have to squint.

It's a good device, and even better with Lollipop. Only bad thing about it is the camera, which I'm sure you won't care much about.

Battery life is pretty good. Standby life with default configuration is about 5 days. Not as good as an iPad or iPad mini, but it fully charges at least twice as fast.

The speaker sound is good, but not great. Display is also nice.

IMO, besides the camera, the Nexus 7 2013 does everything very well, but it's not the absolute best at anything.

I would recommend getting one. It's worth the budget price.

I had wifi turned off when asleep. i hate to seem like i'm dumping on the device as in 2013 it was a no brainer. With just the crisp screen, in its form factor range it was literally in a league of its own.

Its still worth it imo if you're getting a good deal on it. its a good option where at the time of its release it was probably the best option.

Definitely! For the price I'd say it's the best tablet still.
