Yesterday I experienced something I never saw before:

My iPhone is on iOS 13. My family is still on 12.4. My wife and I are defined as parents / guardians in iCloud family. We all share location between ourselves.

What I saw yesterday is that my phone gave me a notification when my son set an alert for when my location changes. In other words, he used Find my Friends on iOS 12 to get a notification when I leave my current location (he wanted to bug me to stop by a store and get ice cream, as it turns out.)

What struck me as odd is that I never got this notification before.

Is this new? Will in iOS 13 all people get a notification that someone has set up a location-based alert on them, or is it just because I'm a parent? Or was this always there?

Yes this is new. Oddly enough, the people I set alerts on have told me they’re not seeing said alert.
maybe it’s because they’re still on ios12.

I do enjoy the Find My Friends overhaul.
My only wish was that I could set a recurring reminder for when someone leaves a location, rather than me having to set one every day.

I really don't see any need for this. Why should the person who has already consented to location-tracking care if one of their followers set a notification alert?

There's a pretty big difference from passively seeing where someone is when you want to actively getting a notification when they move from place to place.
