I'm currently debating between an iPad mini because of its size and the 9.7in Pro because of the Pencil functionality and keyboard case. a Mini Pro would kind of make a great mix of both worlds for me. Is it actually expected for there to be a Mini Pro announced? Are there any rumors or leaks pointed towards it or are people just wishful for it right now?

If people ar just hopeful I'll just make my mind up now, but if one is actually expected then I'll hold off.

No one can really do any more than guess at this point. If you can hold out another month or so, we'll probably know for sure.

I think there is a great possibility of an iPad Mini Pro.... it could happen as soon as March/Apr, but probably more like Oct. As others have said, just wait another few weeks to see if something is announced.

This past holiday shopping season, I took advantage of one of Best Buy's deals on a Mini 4 ($150 off) to supplement my 12.9 Pro. I was holding out for a Mini Pro, but the Mini 4 has proven to be a great option and well worth the price.

really hoping for another ipad mini. The size is just perfect for my needs. Now i cant imagine holding 9.7" to go alpng anywhere.

I don't see a Pro Mini happening simply due to size not allowing the X series A processor to be put into it.

Who says it needs to have an X series processor? Is that what makes it "Pro"? Does that mean the Air 2 is actually the first iPad Pro? My point is that it's all arbitrary. If the Mini gets an update, they may or may not call it "Pro". Doesn't really make a difference.

It does make a difference. You call a device a Pro then you set people's expectations for what said device can do and should do, and I don't see the way people use the current larger iPad pros adapting well at all to the tiny display of the Mini. Part of being a Pro device is the performance hence why X series processor is rather important. This is really the same reasons why people got pissed at Apple becaise the iPad Pro wasn't doing what a Surface Pro can but yet Apple call it a Pro. It's just the naming will set people's expectations and I don't think Apple could really meet those expectations in a Mini small form factor.

The only challenge I see is making a properly-sized smart keyboard for it, since Apple seems intent on advertising the iPad pro with the keyboard and apple pencil. I have seen keyboards sized for the iPad mini and the typing experience is simply too cramped to be comfortable.

The thing about that is, when people complain about the iPad Pro not matching the Surface Pro, it's not about chips, hardware, and performance, it's about a mobile OS not having the same versatility of a desktop OS. Apple could give a Mini "Pro" an A9 chip, 2GB of RAM, and Pencil support and the same people who were going to complain anyway will complain, but others will lap it up. Does the 9.7" Pro really even perform that much better than the Air 2 in everyday use? Putting an A9 in a Mini would probably be at least as much a performance upgrade over the Mini 4 as the 9.7" Pro is over its non-Pro predecessor.

"Pro" is just a marketing term.

I think chances are a mini pro will be announced.

If it isn't, then you know what to do.

Considering that the iPad mini is still one of the most popular iPad sizes, and outsells the pros....I'd say yeah, it's totally possible Apple will announce a Pro version. Recent rumors even say so. I currently have an iPad mini 2 that is on its last legs and am looking to upgrade. I also want to be able to use the Apple Pencil for sketching. If Apple doesn't announce an iPad mini Pro on April 4th with the other iPad updates, I will go for the new bezel-less 10.5" iPad Pro....but I am hoping for an iPad mini Pro. Only a couple more weeks. I can wait.
