iPad Pro Is the Pro 10.5 the next Air 2?

The a8x is nothing special in 2019, but it’s getting iPadOS after being out for almost 5 years.

Does anyone think the 10.5 Pro is going to go as long or more? We know RAM is what killed support for the iPhone 6 and 6 plus and the 10.5 Pro has 4 gigs of it. More than the X, XR, and current non-Pro 2019 iPads

My prediction is it will receive an update or two past iPadOS 15. I think it will age really well like the Air 2 is. 5 years later it still performs like a champ. People have stated iPadOS 13 works very well on it. That’s a good sign of things to come.

it all depends on Apple, the first gen ipad from 2015 has also 4GB RAM.... will it last past the 2GB ipad pro 9.7? It's Apple who decides... We can only try to make scenarios:
Let's take the best case and worst case..
Worst case: ipar air 2 stops at IOS 13, ipad pro 1 (both) stops at IOS 14 and ipad pro 2 stops at IOS 15 (let me make it shorter than ipados...)
Base case: mini 2 stops at 13, A8X and A9 stop at 14, A9X and A10 stop at 15 (any different between 9.7 and 12.9 which has double the RAM? Who knows...). A10X and A11 stop at IOS 16. A12 at IOS 17 and A12X at IOS 18
Best case: every single notch gets a IOS version A8, A8X, A9 etc.
Or some other combination Apple could chose, making IOS last even longer or cutting several notches with some given version of IOS.
But as you see, even in the worst case A10X will get at least 5 years (by the way Air 2 will get at least 6 years since IOS 14 won't come before October 2020) and in the best until 2025-26 (almost 10 years)

I think the next iPad Air will get the form factor of the Pro 11 inch. It will not get all of the “Pro” features, but it will be Apple Pencil 2 compatible, so the 10.5 Pro chassis won’t cut it. Also, it will have Face ID rather than Touch ID, since this is the long term direction for Apple.

Would also bring a more mainstream product onto USB-C. Could only see that happen once the iPhone goes USB-C.
