I ordered an I7 Imac, but can't get a definitive idea if the quad core will be utilized or not. If a software program like Final Cut Express is not "Quad Core Aware", is there no advantage over a Core Duo? Why would the encoding be twice as fast, but not the program?

Nobody really needs more than a 7.4MHz CPU and 640k of ram.

Gotta love Mr. Gates...

And on the question--I'm very much of the opinion that, whether or not you're able to utilize the full power of the i7 at present, you'll be able to use it in the near future as software becomes available or overhauled. Arming yourself against the future is always good.
