Is the R9 M390 underpowered for 27" 5K?

Was thinking of doing some light gaming with my Imac but after digging up the specs on the M390 (958mhz core, 1365mhz memory) it seems slightly less powerful than my GTX 660 SO in my windows rig which is a marginal card at best, and only running a 24" standard res monitor. How that card even runs that big 5K screen is beyond me. Am I misreading the specs?

I would think any kind of gaming performance would be poor with the M390, and therefore a waste of time. Your thoughts?

I think, and this is only my opinion, the iMac only got capable with the radeon pro 580 to speak of gaming. The 5k screen is beautiful, but 1440p (which is the default res in 5k iMac) gaming is not really possible with the prior GPUs. Depends on the games, of course, but at least with pro 580 for the first time you don't have to worry about whether your iMac can run a game or not. Obviously previous GPUs could games run in lower resolutions but that's not enough to satiate one's gaming appetite.

Wrong. The prioer GPU's are capable of 1440p without any issues. I use mine all the time with a M395X.
To answer OP question the M390 is going to be a little bit more weaker but still capable if you turn down some settings.

I do own an iMac with the R9 M390, and do play some games on it. Most games run in medium graphics at 1920x1080 without problems (As long as V-Sync and Anti-aliasing is off).

Games played on my iMac:

• Hitman Absolution (don't remember the graphics settings)
• Tomb Raider (2013) (don't remember the graphics settings)
• Sims 4 (Most on high)
• F1 2013 (don't remember the graphics settings)
• F1 2016 (The game set a medium/custom setting automatically)
• F1 2017 (Medium settings)
• Mafia 2 (High settings without AA and V-Sync)

All native under macOS.
I have a couple of games running in CrossOver as well (Wine)

• Crysis 1 (High settings)
• Red Alert 3 (High settings)
• Hitman Blood Money (High settings)

My iMac is a late 2015 5K
I5 Quad Core
16 GB Ram
512 GB SSD
