Hey

I am getting a new Macbook Air 13" and want to know if the SD slot would be reliable to use as a second source of "storage".

1. Is it safe to store "software related" stuff on the card?
2. Will it be okay to store music on it, that would be used in conjunction with the internal HD through a software? example: Traktor, NI Maschine etc

I would like to think that it were possible to use that slot for more storage to use on a daily basis instead of carrying an eternal disk and usb hub. Both usb ports are used for sound card & controller and the only space I have is 128 GB, i might get a 256 Gb but that is still not enough for my case.

3. Is this sort of card compatible and good for my usage? (used with an adapter?

any suggestions, tips please. thanks :)
[doublepost=1535329849][/doublepost]oh yeah, I totally forgot also

- Will the SD card/slot always be ejected when closing the macbook?

- Can I technically store an OS and boot the whole system from the SD card?

thanks :)

Get a MacBook Air with enough disk space built in. The sd drive is not a good replacement for less hard drive storage.

The integrated reader is implemented as a USB2 device so will be 60 MB/s absolute max regardless of the card.

Check out this page: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204384
thank you for this. saves me a lot of money :)

Hey where is that listed that it is a 60MB/s?

I saw this:

Mac notebooks use the USB bus to communicate with the SD card slot. They have a maximum speed of up to 480Mbit/s.

????????? :confused::confused::confused::confused:

For what I do, it's fine. I don't do any gaming. My use is pretty much limited to documents, spreadsheets, and the kind of design where I'm always going to be slower than a computer. ;)

Be aware that a normal SD sticks out about 1/3 of the size.
That’s why there is the nifty drive

Off topic. There should be a new „air“ coming soon
