Hi

I have tried the speakerphone a couple of times but have to turn off speakerphone, switch back to
the basic phone (EAR) mic because the calling party gets an echo on their end.

Anyone else have this problem with the echo or people complaining about the sound of you on the speakerphone?

And your thread has nothing to do with this one...

I'm asking if the speakerphone on everyones iphone is not all that great...

you are having issues that need repair

hey slackpacker, I am having the same issue. Everytime I talk to my girlfriend on speakerphone she complains of a bad echo. At first I thought it was because I had been using speakerphone while iPhone was docked, but then later with it undocked she complained of the same thing.

Strange, because the first couple of days I talked with her on speakerphone and she couldn't even tell the difference.

Julian,

Are you calling her from somewhere more "echoey" like the bathroom?

Kidding! I have had no echo complaints, most people don't notice I'm on it unless i move a decent distance away from the phone itself. Maybe I'll have someone call me and I'll take a listen.

One thing to keep in mind is the speaker phone and "handset" use the same microphone. The iPhone only has one mic. However the speaker should have probably been placed on the top of the iPhone for better isolation.

It annoys most of my friends.

I just keep it to non-Speaker.

While on Speaker, it gets very dim and soft so they struggle to hear me very well.

How are you answering a question with a question?

Anyways I voted for the "question" that says fine and dandy since I have had zero problems or complaints with the iPhone's speakerphone. I think it's great.

I think that is one of the issues. Echo is created by the dock and if you have your hand near it and the sound reverberates

I am wondering if I got a bum speaker... or mic. because the people that I have used it with say it sounds bad. I have to try it with others but one person says it echos.

I've generally had the same speakerphone issues on every phone I've owned. This goes for regular landline phones too. They just pick up too much stuff sometimes (or not enough) so I just stick with a bluetooth headset.

if possible, take it in to an Apple store and have it looked at.. I had one with a beat battery that I took in to Apple and they replaced it- unfortunately they replaced it with a phone that had a bad speaker.. They replaced that one as well and now I'm able to use the speaker again.. Don't know how close you are to an Apple store, but if it's bad, and it sounds like yours is, they'll replace it on the spot..
