Is the sticky above the best way to rip my DVD collection?

I'm going to start over in regards to ripping my DVD collection.

I want to rip about 100 dvd's and get the best quality and cleanest rip for my tv

I had ripped about 60 dvd's before for XBMC and an old xBox but I've been converting these to m4v with handbrake and the quality is kinda off for all of them. I cant remember how I ripped thes ein the first place.

Yeah, that's probably the best way to go. Personally, I use mac the ripper and then handbrake but either way works. It can be a little tricky to get the latest version of mac the ripper though.

since you have alot, i would rip a bunch using mtr and then run the files overnight with HB. that will speed things up for you.

as for the best encodes, i say it depends on the type of movie (action, drama etc...) and whether or not you want to go higher on the quality scale. for me, action films are done at bare minimum 80%. for dramas and comedies, i'm not too concerned if i see pixelation or anything else.

Not sure if you're talking about 80% on the constant quality scale in handbrake or not but if you are that would be an absolute waste. Anything above 61-62% is quite negligible and you'd just be wasting space on your hard drive at that point. Heck, most people would even be able to tell the difference between 59% and 62%. The developers over there have gotten pretty good with their presets so I'd just go with the TV preset and you won't notice much of a difference with that and the actual DVD itself.
