Is the volume 'ding' supposed to be gone

If you have the option off you can always hold shift when pressing the volume keys to hear the sound (and vice versa).
 
Just checking if the "ding" sound is different from Maverick's?
And is there anyway to change it to sound like the one from Mavericks?
