Is there a BIG diff between iMAc 2.8 and 3.06 GHz?

Any tests done on this exactly? I mean, I am thinking of going to 3.06 but is it worth it?? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

The 8800 equipped iMac outperforms the 2600 in most games and other apps that utilize OpenGL. On apps that used Apple Core Graphics the 2600 outperformed the 8800 equipped models.

If Apple improves the 8800 card drivers this may change, but as it stands now based on the benchmarks above and some user reports the 2600 is a better all around card unless you depend heavily on OpenGL or 3d Games.

Folks with Mac Pros have been experiencing the same differences between the cards.

Hi everyone,

First post here. I've just ordered an iMac 2.8 as well, with specs matching the 3.06 (8800gs, 500gb). Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything significant by eschewing the extra ~260Mhz for ~$150. IIRC, the only difference in the processors is the multiplier setting, and benchmarks of the two systems with the same video card/hardware show just fractional difference.

For those more knowledgeable, does this sum it up? I just want to make sure there's nothing concrete (stuttering on HD video, etc.) that I'm giving up with the 2.8 that wouldn't be a problem with the 3.06.

The 2.8 will not be noticably slower than the 3.06 GHz model, so enjoy your 2.8.
