Is there a conflict of you get a 2nd new Apple TV?


I plan to get another new apple tv for the bedroom. Will there be a conflict if I have one new apple tv in the living room and one in the bedroom?

Will the person be able to watch different things on one of the new apple tv while the other person is watching something on the other new apple tv?
 
I have 2 setup and both can stream content from the same computer at the same time. I am using an airport extreme router.
 
I could certainly see the logic in having 4. I'm currently carrying my one upstairs and downstairs constantly. I've invested far too much time setting up content for it, and the result is pretty spectacular. Broadcast childrens' television, and all the criminally obnoxious advertisements for horrendous plastic **** it delivers is now dead and gone.

Now the Apple TV isn't exactly hard to move about- I've set up HDMI/Power in both locations, but I worry about wearing it out.

One for the kitchen, one for the living room, one for our bedroom and one to cuddle at night.

You should be fine running several on the same network, streaming from the same computer- providing the source computer is connected either via 1gb/100mbps ethernet, or ~300mbps Wifi. It's ultimately going to be the bandwidth available at the source that'll govern how many simultaneous streams you can run.

A gigabit router wont do you any good unless you have a gigabit-capable Mac wired to it and serve clients via wireless N. But with that sort of setup, I reckon you could easily exceed 4 simultaneous streams.

In complete and absolute theory, a Mac wired to a gigabit router serving 10 Apple TVs simultaneously via 100mbps ethernet should be fine.

I have 3. Works great and you can name them differently so you can pick which to control if you are using the iOS based remote app.

Yes I have 2 of the old ones and 2 of the new ones. I put the new ones in the living room and the bedroom. The older ones are in the game room and in my sons room. It was easier this way since at any given time I have company over and I could have 2 to 3 streams going at any given time. Plus it's only 99 bucks =)

Of course people will have 4 or even more. I know people that have 5 tvs in their homes and have an expensive Tivo or satellite DVR on each one of them. With the new Apple TV being only $99 (as well as the small, cool, and quiet form factor with instant on and very low power draw), it makes a whole lot more sense to put one at each TV in the house than more traditional media center hardware.

I thought about going the Mac Mini HTPC or PS3 route but that's just too expensive to place at each tv. I once tried moving my PS3 to my bedroom and the fan (because of the hard drive) was just too loud whereas in the family room I only noticed it when it was very quiet. The Apple TV 2G can be placed anywhere and you don't have to worry about noise, heat, power draw, etc. and it won't cost you an arm and a leg for outfitting every location.
 
Just folded and bought a second Apple TV2. Works a treat. Particularly good that you can play something downstairs, stop it, and resume from where you left off upstairs. It all works so well!

I've got everything on Wireless N, and streams are fine, even whilst I play a bit of Left 4 Dead 2.

Oh, and with the jailbreak possibly coming at 10/10/10 10:10AM. IE: tomorrow. I think things might get very exciting over the next few weeks.
