Hi there,

I basically would like to download large files to my storage device from the internet but the speed I am getting in ridiculously slow compared to downloading straight to my MacBook. I don't have a large enough hard drive on my Mac but I do on my storage device. I have tried connecting the storage device straight to my router via ethernet cable and using my laptop over wifi downloading the file to the storage - but it's still showing 100 Kb/s and then jumps occasionally to 7MiB/s before going to zero. A file that should in principle take maybe 2.5 hrs to download with my speed is taking potentially 3 days.

I there a way to remedy this situation ?

If you are downloading via WiFi, while simultaneously sending it to a storage device on said WiFi, then your WiFi bandwidth is being split between the two tasks. If you need to do it over the network then you also need to hook the mac up via Ethernet cable.

Okay I now have my storage device which is a MyCloud PR4100 and my MacBook pro both connected to my virgin hub router via ethernet and it's more or less the same but a bit faster. 1.5 days for the download to be complete.

It's started speeding up now considerably. 5hrs which compared to the alternative is great. Thanks Analias.

Could you download the files to your MacBook (one-by-one), and then copy them over to your storage device?
