One of the features I miss on my BlackBerry is bedside mode. Plug it in, and it automatically dims the screen and brings up an alarm clock.

What do I have to do on the iPhone? Download an app, turn brightness down in settings, go back to home screen, launch said app. Not preferable compared to "sit in charger".

I'm aware App Store apps cannot open just like this, so is there a jailbroken app with similar functionality?

Whatcha think?

There are ton of alarm clock apps in the app store. I think many of them feature their screen brightness settings, so you can just leave the clock set to a 'dim' setting all the time.

Then just launch it when you go to bed. Yes, that's one more finger press than the automatic BB method, but I would hope that's not a huge problem.

Unfortunately they don't do anything near lowering screen brightness, they just lower the contrast and the brightness of the images in the app. The actually screen does not darken, so it's really not that useful.

So it's quite a few more clicks. There has to be a jailbroken app for this somewhere guys.

I've given up looking for a perfect alarm clock app. It's like the perfect weather app, neither exist for how I operate.

I just use the built in alarm system and a custom lockinfo screen, and turn the brightness down myself when going to bed. Then, if I need to know what time it is, a push on the Home button gets it for me.

And, wrt weather, it's i.wund.com via Safari (and an account with Weather Underground for $5/year so I don't see the ads) in conjunction with the Weather Radar app. Almost perfect....

So, no, there is no app for that.

I have the same concern. Currently my only solution is to use sbsettings. There's a brightness toggle there, so i turn it down, then open the Kensington Rise and Shine app (The dock is pretty nifty!)

Still a pain, but less than going to settings -> brightness, then exiting out. SBsettings can be launched from the main page, and just pops down to make the change.

Be nicer to have a simple, preset "button" to click for night time brightness though.

I'd like to see a jail-broken alarm clock app, too. I agree about the brightness, and even worse is that push notifications or an SMS will cause the screen to turn off. While this doesn't turn off the alarm, it does make it significantly less useful as an alarm.

right now my method is to turn down brightness and push notifications with SBSettings, and launch the clock app. Still, if I get an SMS message or a calendar reminder, the screen will turn off.

Hopefully this will be properly remedied in the next OS release.
