Is there a LIBRARY folder in Lion?

One of the programs I usually use with Mail is Spamsieve.

The program will not automatically install its plug-in into Apple Mail on Lion.

(Previous DP versions it did)

Anyhow, a pop-up suggested I drag the plug-in to:

USER -> LIBRARY -> MAIL

However, I was surprised to find there is no longer a LIBRARY folder under USER.

Am I missing something?

It must be hidden. It's there if you look in terminal.

Here is how you enable it...


Because it is a folder hidden by Apple, it is flagged, so the Terminal command would be:

chflags nohidden /Users/<Username>/Library

Hold Alt/Option key while browsing the "Go" menu in Finder.

Or use chflags to unhide it.

Lets to be honest here, it is not a big deal at all.

The type of people who need access to the Library folder are going to be knowledgable enough to figure out how to unhide it or navigate to it.

The kind of people who don't need access to it will be better off not having it be shown where it might confuse them.

Most people don't need to navigate to the folder and will just end up screwing things up if they do. The folder's name is the biggest problem, if it was called "Don't touch unless you know what you are doing" then it probably wouldn't need to be hidden.

So I ask again, is it really that big of a deal that it's hidden? One command on the terminal fixes it, and a single key inside Finder reveals it (if hidden). I expect many reactions like yours to come, but it might be wise to stop and think before making it a big deal.

No it's not you're right. But really? It is that big of a problem to have it there? I mean, that must have been a major Genius bar issue for this needed.

The folder's name is the biggest problem, if it was called "Don't touch unless you know what you are doing" then it probably wouldn't need to be hidden.

I'd argue that there'd probably more reason to hide it if they'd call it that, than when using "Library". Too many people are too curious for their own good.
