I currently have 1 MacBook Pro, 1 iPhone, and 1 iPad.

My aunt, uncle and both grandmas each have an iPad Air or iPad Air 2 from 2013-2014.

It’s time for them to upgrade and am considering gifting them newer 8th gen iPads.

If so, I’d most likely take these decade old iPads off their hands. I could sell them for around $75 each, netting $300 in total…. Or I could keep these 4 iPads and mount them next to my desktop monitor in my office.

Well, specifically in suppose I’d mount 1 in the kitchen near the stove top, another in the bathroom next to the mirror and another near the couch in the den, etc etc you get the point.

I’d rather keep these older iPads and use them for simple tasks like either using one as an Apple TV remote or one dedicated to just iBooks.

Does Apple limit how many iPads I can have under 1 Apple ID account? If so, what’s a workaround?

Ideally I’d like even to get used iPod Touches and mount 1 near the front door of my house and use it solely as an iTunes connected airplay remote considering I have speakers connected to my AirPort Extreme.

You get the spirit of what I’m asking here though.

I don’t think that they restrict the amount of devices you can have the Apple ID on. They used to restrict you to five computers to play Apple Store content but that’s just applicable to Macs.

There's a difference between the authorizations to play content on computers, and downloads and purchases on mobile devices.

I’ve attached a screenshot of something that’s confusing in the first link.

The first paragraph states no more than 5 computers. So this begs the question; what’s a computer?

I’m guessing MBP, Mac Minis and iMacs.

Second paragraph states devices that were previously associated. I’m guessing this means that if I buy an iPad from eBay, used, or in my example restore my aunts, uncles and grandmothers iPads that I may be presented with this warning message for some odd reason? Obviously I would have them log out of their iPads one last time and do a proper restore before logging into them with my Apple ID.

Apple still restricts the number of devices where you can play purchased media (music, videos, etc). This limit also affects how many devices can have iTunes/App Store automatic app downloads/updates enabled (no limit for manual app downloads though).

I don't think there's any hard limit on how many iPhones or iPad can be linked to an Apple ID. I've got quite a lot since I usually don't resell old devices. Right now, I think I have over 10 iPads linked to my Apple ID.

Yeah, I have 12 iPads on my Apple ID... plus many other devices... so definitely no limit
