Other Is there a limit on the number of iPhones you can return to Apple Store?

I pre-ordered the silver iPhone XS because I love my silver X.

Now I’m considering also ordering a gold XS Max. The gold is really growing on me from videos, but I still want to see it in person. Also I’ve always felt that the Plus size iPhones were too big. But as I’m typing this on my X, I’m starting to think I wouldn’t mind the XS Max. Again, I need to use it to find out.

So if I order both, I’m sure I could just return whichever one I don’t want, right?

Now the kicker... what if I like the gold, but dislike the Max? Then I’d have to return both pre-orders together, and get the gold XS instead. Keeping in mind the silver would remain unopened since I’m already familiar with it. Will they allow that? I don’t want to get flagged or banned or anything.

I hate how ridiculous I sound right now, haha. I pre-order every year and never had a problem picking colors and sizes before.

Any input is appreciated.

You won’t have any issues. Whatever phone you order and receive, and if you don’t like it, you 14 days to return it to any Apple Store for a full refund. They won’t ‘flag or ban’ you because of a return simply because you didn’t like a certain phone, you would have to be way more excessive than that.

Color means little to nothing to me. I usually get blacks so the bezels are black but that no longer matters. I do not like the colored or gold colors as they are a bit flashy to me but I put it in a case and no one will see the color so it is a non-issue.

I did this with iPhone 6. Couldn’t decide between 6 or 6 plus so I got both

I ended up returning the gold Max and the silver XS. I’m just sticking with my silver X for now.

Sorry for all the questions but may I ask why you returned? Also, if you were to have kept one which size and color would it have been?

I ordered the Xs Max in silver and almost considered returning it to get the gold version. I ended up not and stuck with the silver.

I returned the gold Max because it was too big and I just wasn’t a fan of the gold color. I prefer the smaller size of the X/XS, as it is more comfortable to use one-handed. The Max requires quite a thumb stretch to reach the other side of the screen, and is just about impossible to reach the top.

I returned the silver XS because it felt identical to my silver X. I compared them side-by-side for 2 weeks. Face ID was the same, speakers were noticeably better, camera was better (especially in low light). However I very much dislike the front camera smoothing out faces. And there is a stutter/lag in animations when the phone sits idle for 10 seconds. So if you’ve got an app open, say reading something without touching anything for 10 seconds, then you swipe up to return home, the animation stutters and is noticeably laggy. Still happened upon a factory reset and set up as new. I can reproduce it with 100% consistency. And in the separate thread about it, it seems like it affects all XS and XS Max phones (just some people don’t notice it). Meanwhile my X is always perfectly smooth. That was my biggest annoyance, and what turned me off from paying $1,000 for an upgrade with visibly worse performance.

But overall, I greatly prefer the silver color of the regular sized phone. So I would’ve kept the silver iPhone XS if I didn’t already have the X.

Gray for sure. Phone is fantastic!
