As the title says really, also, just out of interest, would it be possible to run Windows alone on a mac, with no mac os?? I.e using the entire partition?

first off that woul dbe the dumbest idea i have ever heard. and two, you have to run boot camp starting in osx so i dont know how you would remove the osx partiion in boot camp before installing windows
I believe you have to leave at least enough room for OS X. You could try merging the two when you go to install windows, but it always seems to end disastrously if you try to do any kind of reformatting of the OS X partition...

As others have said, Bootcamp runs through OSX (I believe that some sort of bootloader stored on the OSX partition will try to emulate BIOS), so you need to keep the OSX partition, and here's how I would do it. First, reinstall OSX from scratch, but deselect everything, OSX should then be trimmed to a nice small size. Then, install Bootcamp, leave a few (1-2GBs) extra on the OSX partition for the breathing room.
But, I'm a switcher (almost a week now), and frankly I use OSX for everything but games.
