I keep finding out you can do more and more with the track pad than I ever imagined which got me thinking that I'm probably missing out on some cool stuff I can do. So is there a list of gestures you can use on MacBooks?

The trackpad system preference pane has demonstrations of all the gestures, you can enable/disable them etc.

All the system wide ones at least. Apps can make individual gestures, like how swiping back in Safari can take you back and forth on web pages, how two-finger rotation and pinching in maps can manipulate the map, etc. - Unless the app itself has demonstrations for those, they are found only via intuition. - This just meant to add to your comment for the OP :)

video clips in that box on what you can do.... cool!

I picked up something new! (don't know much about Macs, so anything is an improvement!)

Swiping between full screen apps! I will give it a go in a bit :D

Hope that helps!

Best wishes

Swiping between full screen apps!

Awesome! I can use all the screen on the tiny 13" MBA :D

Not idiot proof though :p

I'm going to have to learn all the nook and crannies - 3 finger swipe not foolproof - if more than one workspace, if not all full screen for all apps in a workspace then the 3 finger swipe takes the screen to the next workspace

Regards
Martin

Hehe you discovered that yourself before I posted :)

Also, I like to have App Exposé turned on for swiping down with three fingers. It's super nice if you have, for example, 4 Safari windows open. Can quickly use Exposé to get to the right one. Like an app local version of Mission Control which is then up with three fingers instead

Hey Mr Casp,

How are you? Its been a long time! :)

Thanks for the info, I've play with it tommorow now. Will probably do it after work with my work desk - external monitor for the setting info screens etc. etc.

Best wishes
Martin

PS:
Do you know anything about Time machine?
Any advice on my other post would really be appreciated :)

Haha, Mr. Casp - that's a new one, I like it :)

I'm doing okay, cheers. Lots of uni work, lots of guitar, podcast recording - keeping myself busy :)
Thanks.

I personally changed those to 4 finger swipes, I find it easier to remember and therefore more natural and likely to be used.

Keeps in mind though, the best trackpad gesture: 3 fingers drag, is not in there. You have to go into Accessibility to turn it on. Damn you Apple!

What does the 3 finger drag do?!

Apologies, not in front of laptop at the moment, but would be good to know!

Drag and drop by 3 fingers. Not only dragging window as the guy above said but everything. Files, selection.. anything. Anything you can do with pressing and holding a mouse.

Hiya Mr Casp,

Finally got a chance to post properly :)

Hey what’s the details of your podcast? Be good to hear some guitar playing. The sound system I’ve got seems best for vocal and guitars, piano music et cetera

Glad you’re doing ok under these Covid times we are in.
It can’t be good for musicians, I imagine, who thrive on interactions with other musicians et cetera.

Glad you’re still on this forum!

Best wishes
Martin

Awesome. Thank you all so much. I'm so impressed with this MacBook Air. I'm only borrowing it from Mum for a short period but it has made me decide to pick up the MBP 16" when the Apple Silicone version is released.
Hiya Mr C

Glad you are getting on with MacBooks!

Hope you are prepared for the shock of how much the new 16 inch M1 MacBooks will cost! :)

The MBa is awesome bit if kit eh?! ?

Best wishes
Martin

The podcast I participate in is the MacGameCast - A games podcast from the perspective of Mac people. Available anywhere there's podcasts, basically :p
I just got a new audio interface today, but if you wanna hear some of the (bad) music I've already recorded in the past, here you go

Yeah - Fortunately things are pretty good here. I'm back to uni in physical attendance with high vaccination rates so it's more or less normalised on that front :)

… God I hope you're wrong, haha

Hi Mr Casp,

Nice guitar! :)

I'm not a musician myself, but can appreciate people who play :)

Oh yes the rumour mill is saying the 16" MBP is going to cost an arm and leg. hope wrong as well. I don't need the transportability, but would really appreciate the bigger screen when away from ext. monitor.

Best Wishes
Martin

I just don't understand how Apple can make a 1.1Ghz quad core Intel i5 actually feel like a fast computer. If I tried to run Windows on this it would kill it.

Hi Crom,

I'm guessing that's Apple's optimisation of its OS to the hardware. :)

If you are using an Intel MBA, the M1 MacBooks will blow you away. Turn on and just leave on!

Enjoy! :)

aaahhhh Been playing with all these gestures and windows today.

so:
1. A full screen app occupies its own virtual deskspace
2. if I turn off full screen, it joins virtual desk space 1
3. Tile left and right creates its own deskspace
