Do you hear different level of clicking sounds when typing on the virtual keyboard of your iPad?

Hi, as the deadline for returning products is approaching, I need to decide whether to keep my iPad Pro or not.

Overall, it is quite good but I have the following issues:

1. While typing any sentence, some keys on the virtual keyboard generates clicking sounds but not others. Even the same key sometimes generates sound but sometimes no sound. An example is pressing the delete key to delete some characters. It does not generate clicking sound at every key press. Is this an iOS bug or only happens to my device?

2. Battery life is about one day long only.

3. In Apple's app store, when clicking 'more' to see more detailed descriptions of the app, sculling causes motion sickness. I think somebody said it is an app store's bug?

Anything else that I should check on my device?

1) not sure, I don’t use key sounds most of the time. If the key is triggered though this appears to be more of a bug than a hardware problem.
2) Sounds plenty to me.
3) Others have reported laggy behaviour when scrolling in some areas of the App Store. Could also be laggy internet connection I guess.

Does the blooming bother you? It's real, just a matter of whether it bothers you or not (it doesn't bother me on mine).

What is the best way to test the blooming? Turning brightness of the LCD to max and watch videos in the dark? Any good sample video clips to try out?

As some of you may recall, the iPad Pro 2017 12.9" had spotlights along one edge. It was so bad that so many spotlights made the issue less noticeable. I didn't buy AppleCare+ for it so I just let it be. Given that the iPad Pro 12.9" 2021 has been around for half a year, anybody has this issue?

Check the sticky thread out on the issue - lots of ways to see it but yes, bright white images in a dark room will display it and it's a big issue for some.

I watched some videos related to blooming but I don’t see the problem. Clicking sounds on and off for no reason pi*ses me off much more. Now I noticed that when typing, sometimes the clicking sound is very low. I have to put my ear on the virtual keyboard to hear it. Sometimes there is no sound but sometimes on the same keys the clicking sounds became very loud. Could you guys and ladies please try if you have this problem? Even pressing the backward delete key a few times and different clicking sound loudness is generated.

So what is the status of maximum thunderbolt4 speed? I read that the actual speed is much lower than the advised 40GBps. Is Apple limiting the speed on purpose or there is a bug waiting to be fixed?

My old guy take on blooming is that it's really overblown as an actual problem. Sure, if you crank up brightness in a dark environment you'll see it. But in dark environments I generally find that I'm turning brightness down for eye comfort. I just don't really notice it when using what I consider comfortable brightness levels in the environment. I have a low end LED TV in my office. If the room is dark I can certainly see blooming and it's clear blacks are not truly black. But I almost never watch that TV in a really dark environment. I do know that once one sees a flaw it's hard not to unsee it. And perhaps I'm just not a very critical user. But in the real world I generally hear folks talking about what great screens iPads have.

You could try backing up or copying stuff from the ipad to a USB storage device and see if you get any corrupted files

4. For the past few days, I noticed that while the iPad Pro is plugged in a Caldigit Element Hub, the screen is warm sometimes. I know it as I use Apple Pencil 2 to write on the screen. Is this normal?

5. While I left the iPad alone when being charged, I caught two times that a big Apple logo suddenly showed up in the middle of the screen. The same logo we see when we turn off and on or reboot the device. The battery power at that time was 100% and I used about 50GB of 256GB memory. This is very worrying. Anybody knows what is wrong? Is it better to get it replaced? Yesterday was the last day to return the iPad and it behaved like this in the evening. I could not contact Apple nor start the return process from their website.

4) the device might just get warm from charging.

5) if this happens in the charging process, maybe try a different charger or seek a way to reproduce it. I haven’t seen this happen and mine runs many hours every day. Setting up fresh might be worth looking into.

Thanks. Do you keep it plugged in all the time. This happened at least twice.

Is it better to use the charger that came with it rather than using the Caldigit Element Hub or PC? It seems to be that the Caldigit hub chargers faster than the stock charger.

Are there Apple made charger that can charge it faster without issue?

I often have it plugged in for longer but not all the time. I mostly charge with the supplied Apple charger but also have a stronger one from a MacBook as well as a third party one in the house. I advised you trying a different one as these are the factors you can influence yourself.

1. My iPhone 12 Pro does exactly the same and has done since day 1, especially in safari, think this is a bug.

2. Apple only advertise 9-10 hours battery life so this is expected.

3. Never noticed this.

However, my issues for my short time with the 12.9 M1 were more hardware than software related…

1. Border shadow
2. Blooming issues
3. Larger space between LCD panel and front glass made display look cheaper

You should know by now not everyone has the same software issues lol

What puzzles me is that iPad OS is responsible for the clicking sound from the virtual keyboard at system level. So if it is a software issue, we should either all have this issue or none of us has it. What could be the reason? Different users running different versions of iPad OS 15 on the M1 12.9" 2021 model? As I recall, I updated mine to the latest version right away when I got the iPad the first week of December. There has been no new update since then.

Plenty of people have various software bugs that others don’t with the same model. Best place I can direct you to for that is in the iOS forums, they have dedicated threads to the beta releases and official releases From there, you can read pages of people with various issues that some do have and others don’t.

I wish I could tell you why that is.

I remember that when I turned on this iPad Pro 2021 the first time, it asked me to do something from my iPhone which was placed on the same desk. Then, some magic happened and it looks like some settings, data and 3rd party app that I have on my 2017 iPad Pro got copied automatically to this iPad. However, I still needed to install a few 3rd party apps manually. Is this Quick Start mentioned in: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210216

Since Apple could not handle the self-reboot issue and I caught the issue before the end of the return period, they swapped a replacement for me. I have not opened it yet. To avoid possible software issues being transferred to this new iPad, I think it may be better to install everything manually from the start rater than using that kind of magic automatic copying of settings, data and app mentioned above. I don't mind making all the settings from the beginning again. How do I prevent such automatic copying of settings, data and app? Turning off the iPhone and iPad Pro 2017 before and during the setup process of the replacement? If I enter my Apple ID, will such automatic copying of settings, data and app still happen?

I opened the box and set up the iPad manually without automatic transfer of files nor settings. Why when I went to MacRumors on this device the first time, it remembered and proposed my user I’d and password? 3rd party app did not get installed but strangely speaking, some but not all videos show up on this device automatically even I did not select restore from iCloud.

On this iPad, the virtual keyboard produces clicking sound on any single key I pressed. I am typing on it now. No missing click sound at all. It is running iPad OS 15.1.

Among those of you who reported that your iPad Pro 12.9" 2021 has clicking sound on every key press, are you using 15.1 or 15.2?
