Let me go ahead and apologize for the rambling and long post up front.
I do a little web design among many other things. I really only do my own stuff so I am not a pro by any definition. I am really an audio/video guy. BUT. I want to make a few web sites that i would call "directory" or "information" sites where there are articles and other types of information about a given subject area. Along with this will be the ability to search for a service provider in a persons area - State, City, etc. I can design and build the site. What I want a visitor to be able to do is to log onto the site to be a service provider / advertiser, enter their business information and credit card/paypal, etc for billing and then have their information show up when someone searches for a provider in their area. I want the visitor/advertiser to be able to do this automatically without my interaction and to be able to discontinue the service the same way. I suspect that this will involve a database, mysql or something similar. i know what they are and how they work but not how to set them up. I do not know if that will deal with the billing part of it. I want to find someone - preferably local- to work with on this. i would like to be able to use the right terminology to at least describe what I am wanting to do - without having to go through what you have just been subjected to reading through. There are many sites like this on a variety of subject areas. Is there a name for what I have described? It is really two things - the signing up and displaying the advertiser information - and the billing. I have found "subscription" scripts but i don't think that is really what it is.
