My family and I only buy cellular iPads. My wife and I are grandfathered on the original ATT unlimited plan since iPad 1.
Pre-covid we travel full time. Never having to think of WIFI plus unlimited streaming will on the go is worth every penny.

If you ever expect to want to use the internet away from your home wifi you get the cellular; anything else will annoy you like you wouldn't believe.

So, basically, unless you physically have it tethered to your home you will want to have that cellular version; because you will find yourself wanting to use the internet while on it.

I always buy the cellular iPad. Even though I have only used it on cellular a handful of times, I would rather not be in a situation where I need it but don't have it. Plus, as Robbosan mentioned above, GPS is only available on the cellular iPads.

Bought cellular back when my phone is a crappy blackberry for the GPS function, I used the iPad as a navigation system in the car.
Nowadays, I buy wifi only, the iPhone is there for internet tethering, and the car already has Android head unit for navigation system that also using the iPhone’s internet connection.

I have always bought the cellular model iPad, even the used ones. Yeah I could tether to my iPhone, but when working from the office was an option, I would use public transportation and would use the iPad for entertainment on the train, and figure I’d rather have only one expensive item noticed, than the iPad and iPhone. Now that more coffee shops in Chicago are starting to reopen, they tend to keep the WiFi off to limit the amount of time someone spends there, with cellular, it’s not a problem, and I’ll stay As long as I want.

Car manufactures are now adding wifi as a special add on for some models. Depending on your region, wifi is more accessible out in the public. But I would consider getting a cellular Ipad if I were to purchase one in the future. But for now I will tether away from my iphone.

Yes my car Android head unit has wifi to tether from my iPhone.
My region is absolutely far away from public wifi ?. Our local government surely haven’t invested on more public wifi infrastructures.

I just bought my first Wifi+cellular iPad. My previous 2 were Wifi-only minis. Between available wifi and using my phone as a hotspot when away from home, I got along okay with them. But, my brand new 8th Gen iPad is wifi+cellular. I have hopes of taking some long road trips when the effing pandemic recedes - and would rather have the GPS and direct data connection when out in the country. I was able to sell my Mini 4 for more than enough to cover the $ difference between wifi only and the cellular-capable version. I decided to put my money where my hopes are even if I don't wander far from home right now. :)

Only ever buy WiFi iPads. On the extremely rare occasions I’m away from home and not in range of WiFi I tether from my iPhone where I have loads of data. Don’t need an extra data plan for an iPad as it’s pointless for me.
That’s my mindset. I used my 12.9 pro with magic keyboard on work wifi so for that wasn’t an issue only time where it would be useful or needed as if i didn’t have a wifi to connect to but with my iphone plan makes more sense to do it via my phone

Had a Cellular iPad 3, didn’t use the cellular much. Got the Cellular Mini 5 after considering WiFi only and glad that I did. If I got a 2nd iPad I would go WiFi only and keep the cellular on Minis only, as I’m not likely to take anything else out of the house.
