I need to fax my Resume to a few companies (why they don't use email is beyond me) I was wondering if there was a way to send .doc files as a faxed message. I'm talking about not printing it. Instead I just want to send the file. Also is there a program that will let me fax things out from my mac? Any help would be great.

If you've got a modem, you can fax it from within Word. Just hit File->Print and then click the PDF button in the lower left corner of the print dialog, and select Fax PDF.

(Note, I've never used this function before, but it should work without too much trouble.)

There's gotta be a few fax programs that you can download for free. I don't really know how well they'll do. I'd check VersionTracker and MacUpdate for those programs.

Hi!
Um - assuming you are using MS Word, then it should be automatically configured to send faxes. Go to File > Print and there is a small box at the bottom of the panel that should say Fax. Click on that and follow the instructions.

There is also substantial amount of help available concerning general sending/receiving faxes in the OS X help.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks guys. I don't have a regular modem. I use broadband. I'll see if this works with my current network setup.

P.S. you guys are correct I'm using Office.

My print screen doesn't have this faxing function.

EDIT I found it. It's in PDF functions.

Some ISPs offer a fax service.

You email your resume to a specific address and the ISP then in turn will fax it for you.

Likewise, you can receive faxes. When a fax comes in it goes to your mail inbox.

I've never seen this service for free there is always a small charge. It might be worth looking into if you need to do a lot of faxing and don't want to get a modem.

Hmmm. On my set-ups (Panther 10.3.9) Office 2004, there are 3 buttons at the bottom of the Print panel, one (left) for Preview, the middle one for PDF output and the one on the right for Fax. Maybe it is configuration -dependent? Anyway, as long as you have found it and it works then --- tant pis.
Good luck with your job applications. :)

I'm fairly certain that that third "Fax" button only appears if you've already set your modem up to handle faxing, via Printer Setup and/or the PrefPane. Obviously you can only do this if you have a modem, though...

Thanks everyone I got it working. All I did was plug in my house phone into my modem port and everything worked out great. That was pretty easy to do overall. Faxing so outdated. Email should have replaced that mofo a long time ago. Why it's still around is beyond me.

Mine only had a fax function in it's PDF area. It all worked out good in the end.

Once again I can't thank you all enough. Everything went out and was sent. I got a confirmation from the people I sent my resume to.
