is there a quick way to replace track names like 1,2,3... with real albulm info?

so have you ever copied a cd to your harddrive with out putting it in itunes and doing a cddb search to fill in the names? you get just track #'s and when you put em into itunes they get catigorized into an order that makes me have like 5 track #5's (however many times ive done it...u get the idea) and so i cant put em inthere and rename em all with out pickn through the mess.
but right now i know the album and is there a program that will alow me to chang the file names before putting them in itunes?

I would sort your itunes library by date added, then it is really easy to see which tracks form a full album. Then, you can select everything in one album and do get info, then you can edit everything but the track name and number from the "Multiple Song Information" panel. To change a sort in ITunes, you just click the column heading of the field you want to sort by. If you can't see a column, right click on a column heading, or if you have a one button mouse, you can go to Edit -> View Options.

I second iEatBrainz. Not perfect, but pretty close. It will definitely save you a lot of time.

iEatBrainz is the only worthwhile tool for this right now, but the database it uses is frankly pretty flaky--sometimes it will be completely unable to identify a single song even though it finds the rest of the album, and whatever song signature it uses to identify music isn't very accurate--you get a LOT of false positives, so you have to be very careful to go through its suggested name list and either pick the right one from the sometimes long list of suggestions, or leave it out entirely if you can't find it.

If it correctly identifies at least parts of an album, at least you can go directly to the database and do a copy and paste to get the rest of the info.

Tunatic seems to be far better about not getting false positives, but it's database isn't as large, and it's designed for "listening" to music, not processing stuff in your library, so you need to use a loop cable or something if you want to do this, and even then it's tedious to copy and paste the info into iTunes. Really just useful for getting info on a random song that you really don't know what it is.

thanks guys, it all is a help. i wish there were a database like the cddb that had software that was acurate. but ohh well. also, i wish there were a program that would find and delete partial files. i deleted all my music after puting on my ipod and left it on auto update. so the ipod deleted its self when i pluged it in. god! what a stupid desighn.(common apple) but anyways, i did a file recovery from the trash and got a lot back. but alot of them,...or some, w/e, cut out before the end. and i dont know how long everything is suposed to be so if im djing and it cuts out in the middle(i know i can see it when playing) that would suck. frikn i tunes is a good idea. but i could nit pick it all day. it should have all these capabilities, i think. and you should be able to select more than one frikn track in the library.

I have my ipod set to NOT automatically update. It only updates when I drag music from my library to it.

And what do you mean about not selecting more than one track. Click a track you want, hold shift, click another track to select all of those inbetween. For individual random tracks, hold apple and click tracks you want.

Nice, i didnt know that about selecting. thats great. thanx for enlightening me.
and now i know not to auto update. but it would have been nice to have a warning that stated when you auto update it doesnt onely add to, but deletes all that isnt there. it just wasnt clear enouph. and if its just me being stupid then so be it. i try not to be. but it doesnt always work out.

Select all the audio tracks inside of iTunes, then go to Avanced>Get CD Track Names. If you have a working internet connection iTunes should be able to get all the information off of the internet. Just a quick and easy way to do it, hope this helps.
