Is there a reason my startup tone doesn't work?

Hi everyone,

I have a 1.5ghz 12" PowerBook G4. I have noticed lately sometimes when I turn it on or restart there is no start up tone. Even when I make sure the volume is up all the way and with no external speakers plugged in. I always expect to hear the "ding" but about 2/3 of the time I do not.

Same thing happens on my Powerbook, but maybe I'm just not paying attention when I turn it on

Maybe a PRAM issue?

Maybe the system starts before power is in the speakers or it could be a wiring problem or you speakers could be bad.

Contact Apple for assistance.

You've reminded me of a thread I started but had forgotten until now. It may or may not be related to your problem.

I'm glad you reminded me as I have some more info to add when I get a chance.
