I've spend a few years tagging and organising a lot of of my files on my computer (mainly videos and pictures) using a small program called Punakea.

I thought the metadata tags are portable and transferable between different systems and programs but seems that might not be the case.

I've just got a new computer and tried to install Punakea again, however the app is discontinued and I'm afraid it'll not be supported for future IOS.
I could copy my previous version of Punakea from my old HD - and it still loads perfectly all my tag.
I tried to use other apps like 'Leap' but can't see my tags anywhere they seem only to be read in Punakea, which makes me think all the work I've done over the years can only be read by Punakea.

Does anyone know of another app that can read all kinds of metadata - so I eventually will not loose years of work and organising?

Hi,

I'm assuming you've made a typo and you mean macOS, not iOS?

You might be able to pull some metadata out of files using exiftool, but you'd need to do some command line kung fu - and have somewhere to put that data. That's assuming that the metadata is stored in the files (e.g. as XMP) and not in some kind of database managed by Punakea (I'm not familiar with the app, I'm afraid).

So, to summarise, personally my first port of call would be to have a poke around at some tagged files with exiftool then take it from there.
