Is there a way to customize the phone keypad?

A friend of mine asked me this was possible. The keypad is basically just a square grid with text for the numbers/letters. Is there a way to replace the numbers/text with an image? Or change the shape of the button from something other than a square?

Basically some way to create a theme for the keypad and not just changing the background. Thanks.

yes it can be done, dont ask me how i have yet to try that option

It can easily be done under customise. Some of the image sets that go with customise have phone keypad images included. When I was on 1.0.2, I was using a custom keypad.
