I have a Studio Display which I plug into my Macbook Pro. When the display is connected, I want apps to use the Studio Display webcam and not the Macbook webcam. Unfortunately, some apps do not have an option to choose which webcam you use, and default to the Macbook webcam. Facebook Messenger, for example.

Is there a way to disable the Macbook webcam, or alternatively, to force the Studio Display webcam to be the default for all apps?

I don’t think there is a way to disable just the Macbook webcam.

Setting a restriction with a profile will forbid all cameras from being used.
allowCamera false https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicemanagement/restrictions

I know two third-party apps that can manage webcams and they can’t disable one
CameraController https://github.com/Itaybre/CameraController
Webcamoid https://webcamoid.github.io

You can try to set up a virtual camera and maybe it will show up as default.
