The webbrowser is used to control the downloads. You can probably also tinker with command line commands, but that would be very cumbersome.

I am still trying to figure out how you can download anything without a computer ..

Thanks maybe with couchsurfer you could do it all on the Apple tv?

You don't necessarily need a Webbrowser ON your AppleTV. It works with the iPhoen or any other browser you use within your home network
