Is there a way to forget Wi-Fi network on only one device?

Hi,

I have run into a situation where I want my Apple TV to auto connect to network A, forget network B, but I want my other Apple devices to do the opposite. I tried to forget network B on my Apple TV but all my other Apple devices ended up forgetting network B.

Is there any way to achieve my goal? I am having the same Apple ID across all my devices.

Yes, it is possible to achieve your goal of having your Apple TV automatically connect to network A while forgetting network B, but allowing your other Apple devices to do the opposite.

One way to accomplish this is by creating a separate iCloud account for your Apple TV. By doing so, you can have different network settings for each device, even if they share the same Apple ID.

To create a new iCloud account for your Apple TV, follow these steps:

1. On your Apple TV, go to "Settings" and select "Accounts."
2. Select "iCloud" and then choose "Create New Apple ID."
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new iCloud account.
4. Once the new account is created, sign in to it on your Apple TV.
5. Go to "Settings" and select "Network."
6. Choose "Wi-Fi" and select network A.
7. Select "Forget Network" for network B.

Now, your Apple TV will automatically connect to network A and forget network B.

For your other Apple devices, you can continue using your original iCloud account with both networks saved. To ensure that they connect to the correct network, you can prioritize the networks in the Wi-Fi settings on each device.

To prioritize networks on an iPhone or iPad:

One way to accomplish this is by creating a separate iCloud account for your Apple TV.

That might blow up your HomeKit experience, since the Apple TV on the new iCloud account is no longer going to work as a Home hub.

Or just disablein the devices which should not connect the option "connect automatically". This works for me.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to have different Wi-Fi network preferences for different Apple devices that are signed in with the same Apple ID. For devices signed in with the same Apple ID, any changes made to Wi-Fi network preferences will apply across all devices.

However, there is a workaround that you can try. You can set up a Guest network on your router specifically for your Apple TV, and connect it to Network A. This way, your Apple TV will always connect to Network A automatically without affecting the other Apple devices. Meanwhile, you can keep Network B as the preferred network for your other Apple devices.

To set up a Guest network, you'll need to access your router's settings and create a new network with a different name and password than your main network. Consult your router's manual or contact your internet service provider for assistance with setting up a Guest network.

Wouldn't that be an issue if you need that Apple TV to act as a HomeKit Home hub?

If @Cruncher 's solution does not work, here's another approach:
Dependent on the router model, you can simply block the MAC-address of the Apple TV.
This can normally be done in a submenu of the WiFi security panel.
Activate something like "only allow known devices to connect" and then remove the Apple TV from the list.
If you want to add new WiFi devices to connect to that router, you have two options:
- Manually add the MAC-address of the new device into the routers allowed-list.
- Disconnect the Apple TV from power. Then in the router temporarily allow all new devices to connect and connect your new device. Then re-enable the routers filter-list. Re-connect Apple TV to power.

Isn't the syncing of WiFi network info between Apple devices, other than the Apple TV, based on having iCloud "Password & Keychain" syncing ON? I have it turned off and don't have anything that's on my iPhone showing up on my Mac Studio…on the same iCloud account.

The setup of an Apple TV, using an iPhone on the same iCloud account, is a different animal. Apple TV doesn't have "Password & Keychain" syncing.

Some of the answers here seem to be making the assumption that all iCloud users would have "Password & Keychain" syncing ON.
