The only way I know of besides Playon is a plugin for XBMC by bluecop. Here is his page for the repo. The Apple tv must be jailbroken and have XBMC installed.

Yeah, I'm a Prime member so I've been trying to get it to work (half-heartedly). I have the latest lbrtmp file installed, I can browse titles, metadata looks good, but they just won't play. I need to get off my but and submit a log file for BlueCop to look at I guess.

I've got it setup and working. The problem (at least, last time I checked) is that the organization is a little anemic and there's no search functionality. I saw some bluecop updates push through last night, so perhaps it's been updated; but I haven't had a chance to check.
