I have a growing number of movies on my Mac, each in a QuickTime movie file. Watching movies on the streaming platforms you can fast forward 5 or 10 seconds, back up, and so on, it's even better in YouTube you can click forward by 5 seconds 10 seconds, or even frame by frame if you know the keyboard buttons to use.

But during a long movie in QuickTime on my Mac, I seem extremely limited to hop back a few seconds to take a second look or screen grab of this or that... or to watch the last few seconds again. Is there a player I can open my movie files in to be able to do that? Something with more controls? I read a bunch of Google results about how to speed up 1x or 2x but still it's not at all useful, especially for someone who does it constantly during a movie.

Or if something like that doesn't exist, would it be possible to create one (player or controller app) if I had the money to hire a developer? Or is controlling a movie file something that's more complicated than I realize? YouTube is great, I can move around from any point by frame, seconds, or click the 1 to hop to the 10% of the video, 4 to the 40%, 9 to jump to the 90% of the video, etc and a bunch more. I'm surprised that there's not similar controls for something that's already downloaded to my computer. Are there any kind of controls or anything like that for QuickTime?

Thanks!

Im using IINA too since I know it, what might be just a year.

But it started beachballing permanently in some later macOS 15 beta. Don't know if this is still the case. I am using it for audio only since then. But this happened to almost every 3rd-party video player like VLC or Eltima. Luckily in my Setapp subscription is also Movist Pro, what didn't has that problem.

I should try if it's working normally now again...

It's good enough that I wasn't even interested to try the paid player apps in Setapp before.
