Is there a way to markup images sent via iMessage w/o saving the image 1st?

I want to be able to markup images that my friends send to me via iMessage but without having to save the image 1st to my camera roll.

Is there a way I can directly markup the image that appears in my messages?

What do you mean attach an image? The image is sent to me in imessage from a friend, when i hold down on it, I don't see any option for markup, only save, copy or forward
