I've been using the 2018 iPad Pro since December. I like the device but have run into the unresponsive touchscreen glitch every day and it is becoming very annoying. It is so annoying I find myself using my old MacBook more and more often. Now I'm thinking why do I need this iPad at all if its such a chore to use that I would rather use my old MacBook? I tried to give it a chance but now I'm thinking I want a refund. Its been 3 months since I bought it. I want it to work correctly but apple can't fix this problem and it will never work correctly. Do I have any options?

It sounds more like a software glitch than hardware. Did you try a hard reset (erase all contents and settings)?

I'm on my 3rd iPad Pro that has had this same issue. Multiple resets, reboots, reinstalls does not change anything. For each device, the problem started off minimal and slowly got worse. I think it has to do with how worn the battery is. I'm just exhausted and tired of dealing with this issue. I just want a computer that is reliable.

I would feel the same way. I'd take it to the local Apple store and have them take a look. If they confirm the issue, they should exchange it as still being under 1 year warranty (as chabig mentioned).

The solution is to diversify your hardware/software investments. Apple produces beautiful hardware that “just works’. Linux provides full control of computing and the freedom for the user to be in control. Complete reliance upon the profiteers is futile. You choose the path.

The question of a refund depends on the seller, their policies and of course the country of purchase. There is no easy answer.

Did you buy from Apple directly?

It's 3 months old. You've already replaced it twice and you're now on your third one. Take it back and ask for a full refund. Check the lemon laws in your state (if you're in the US).

I think for cars, if they can't fix the problem after 3 times, then you have to give you your money back.

Problem is you take it back as I did and the problem doesn’t replicate so, Apple says nothing wrong. Besides, people have made exchanges and the problem appears on the new iPad. We’re stuck unless Apple acknowledges and finds a fix.

I'm confused. You take it to the Apple store and the iPad is perfect. You take it home and the problem is now there. And this happens over and over. What exactly is the problem that Apple should provide a fix for?

The touchscreen should never lock up, but it does all the time. It is hard to demonstrate at the Genius Bar because you would have to play a whole game of pubg, or it might not happen until the 2nd game.

The first 2 were 2017 iPad pros. I bought a new 2018 hoping they solved this issue. They didn't! Now I'm $2800 invested in these 2 iPads and neither of them are reliable.

Understood. Could it be a problem with the game software rather than iPad hardware or IOS? I'd double check with the game's creator or their forum (if there is one) to see if others also experience this on iPad.

It is a well known problem in the pubg community. Nobody plays on iPad Pro. People play on iPhones and do not see this issue. Other games and apps lock up too so it is safe to rule out the pubg app. I was playing the monkey tower defense game and it locks up too, just not a critical problem in a tower defense game. I've been playing FTL and even though it is turn based the touchscreen lockups still cause problems when you need to time your shots and the fire button won't work. Even in normal productivity use the keyboard can lock up like this so you can't type.

The ongoing issues with irresponsive touch screen is one of the main reasons why I am skipping iPad Pros with newer casings until Apple fixes this.

I’d push hard for refunds and email Tim Cook about it (Something I neglected to do last year because of more pressing personal matters). Just be nice and state as much details as you can. 3rd time you should get a refund, no?

Make a video of it the next time it happens. This way you’ll have proof to show the genii at apple.

I second this. For problems that are hard to replicate in store on short notice, a video taken at home is your best bet. I've done this before and it definitely helps. (Of course, they may still offer you a new iPad and can't fix the problem, so whether you can get a refund will depend on the law)

What a kooky response that has absolutely nothing to do with the OP’s question.

As to the OP’s post, take the iPad to your local Apple store for service. It is nearly impossible to give you a good answer without physically handling the device. Good luck.

I was a linux fanboy too for many years. I put red hat on my desktop in 2001 and got on board with ubuntu at breezy badger. I just don't have time to fuss with it to keep it running as a main device. I'm an engineer for work and I'm tired of having to come home and do more engineering work. This is why iOS appeals to me, I don't ever need to edit a config file or fuss with it. If anything I would switch to windows. I have a windows desktop and a MacBook Pro I just prefer to use a tablet, if it would work correctly.

Sorry but i’m calling bull on this comment. If “Apple” hasn’t fixed the issue it’s because either it’s software and you are refusing to do the erase, restore or whatever they told you to do or it’s hardware and you haven’t bothered to go to a store or contact them for a replacement. Or maybe you did and they offered to send you a replacement but you refuse to send them the defective one or let them put a hold on your credit card for them to send the new one first.

So now it sounds like there is only one condition where this allegedly ‘defect’ happens. If it’s really an issue with the iPad you should be able to replicate it in anything. But since you say you would have to “play a whole game of pubg” that strongly suggests that the issue isn’t the iPad but pubg. Which makes sense give that it kept happening despite updating your hardware. It also explains the multiple threads on reddit etc I found when doing a quick google search on the issue.

I don’t even play pubg anymore, it still happens all the time.
