Because of AM's bugs I wound up monkeying around where I shouldn't have in an attempt to try to fix the problem caused by the bug, and the result is that I messed up a bunch of things in my playlists and probably elsewhere too. So I wanna just reset Apple Music entirely and start from scratch. And since AM is a cloud service I'm sure that even if I did a total erase and reinstall of iOS then the problems will still be there in AM the instant it connects to the cloud.

Any ideas?

Turning it and iCML off has worked for me. I did have to do a full restore of my iTunes Library, all my music, etc. because of the FUBARing that iCML did.

iCloud Music Library

You could try following this guide from Apple - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204964

Oh, yeah i've turned that off and on again a bunch of times, but the problems remain. And thanks for the link but I never used iTunes Match and the problem described on that page isn't the problem I'm having.

The problem is AM ate up all of my storage space, and after trying the sometimes-works tricks to fix this problem didn't work, I then went in with iexplorer and found the GB's of garbage MP4 files that it was wrongly storing, and I deleted them. When I restarted AM all was fine, when I connected to the net it redownloaded my playlists and everything was working perfectly. But then a couple days later when I was offline I added a song to one of my playlists that was currently shown as being empty because that playlist hadn't re-synced with the cloud library, and later when I reconnected to the cloud library it replaced my huge playlist with the version of that playlist which only had a single song in it. And another playlist is also suddenly empty now and I don't know what caused that one to happen.

So clearly my AM cloud library is now currupt and screwed up, so it seems that the only trustworthy solution is to nuke my whole AM database and start over from fresh.

Well, turning off iCML and AM on all my devices left me with nothing stored anywhere. But as there are bugs in everything associated with AM and iCML, that doesn't mean it will work the same for everyone. :/

What happened when you turned AM and iCML back on again?

Interesting. I started AM with a blank library on my Mac. After adding what I needed I turned on iCML on my iPhone which before that had 4GB of music I sync'd via iTunes. Now when I look at General->Usage I have the same amount of free storage before AM. But none of that old music is shown in the ManageStorage->Music app.

Would turning off ICML on my iPhone, then clearing the music get me back to what iTunes shows when syncing - 4.7GB less.

I have only turned it back on on my ipad (which had no music stored on it to begin with). There was nothing there other than the new (empty) smartlists Apple seems to insist we want. No AM or iTunes-uploaded songs in the cloud, no songs auto-downloading, just my (4) purchased songs waiting for download and the U2 album Apple gave everyone that I can't seem to get rid of. So I'm assuming that everything that was added to AM from my phone, or that was uploaded and mis-matched from my MBP, is gone.

So if you turn iCML back on, will it sync from what's in your iTunes AM library?

There is nothing in my AM library, because when I turned it and iCML off on every device I had, it cleared out.

I'd hoped the songs I'd saved on my phone would still be in my account when I activated it on my iPad, but nope.

So that sucks..... maybe because you only had iCML active on one device on your account? I still have my Mac logged into iTunes AM

It was active on my mac and my phone. I assume if you want to clear everything out (as the OP does), that's the way to go - turn off AM and iCML for every device/machine.

I have AM on now for all my devices, but iCML off. Because of that, I can't save anything for offline, add anything to My Music, make AM playlists, etc., so there's nothing to sync.

So just to clarify, you're saying that if I simultaneously turn of AM and iCML on the 2 devices I use, after that I'll be able to turn AM and iCML back on again and there will be no albums in my library or playlists I've created previously?

I'm saying that was my experience.

So today I turned on my ipad and all the songs were there, in the cloud. I manually deleted them all, so now they're gone (again). Not sure what that's about...

Yeah, the method you described didn't work for me. I think the only way would be to create a brand new apple ID. The only potential problem with that is I wouldn't want to use the new ID for any other iCloud services, just for AM, because I wouldn't want to lose the use of all the apps I've paid for and other stuff like that.

Right now my plan is to use AM without expecting any of what I do on it to be permanent, and then do a total erase and reinstall of iOS once 9.0 is released, and hope that AM fixes itself.

You can manually remove stuff. That does seem to work.

Yeah but the problem is that I think the AM database for my account is probably screwed up, because i've already lost over 1500 songs that I had put into a playlist. I monkeyed around with some files using iexplorer, and after that my 1500-song playlist was empty, and another playlist also became empty, and some album thumbnails stopped displaying. So my AM account is already messed up, and I wouldn't trust it enough now to build up playlists again that're just gonna wind up getting erased again. That's why I'm looking for a way to just totally reset my AM account and start fresh.

Give the problems people have had across the board, it's probably not your account, just AM and iCML. I've cleared mine out and am turning off iCML on everything for the time being. If Apple fixes stuff I might try it again. Fingers crossed they actually care if this service succeeds.
