I was just wondering if there was an Android Version of MacRumors, with a news and forum like there is here. While I do have apple products, I did switch my phone to Android and most of the news here is about either the Macbook or IOS. Where do you go to get Android news. I know of 9 to 5 Google and Android Central, but other than Reddit, I wouldn't mind participating in an Android based forum.

Another vote for XDA, although that one is more on technical side and custom ROM.
Sammobile is one I tend to check for Samsung related news.
For Xiaomi forum, there's Xiaomi Community forum, sponsored by Xiaomi themselves.
GSMArena is more of information site with comments, although a ton of trolls there as you can post anonymously without an account. I only go there for the news.

Sadly, there isn't... at least none with the audience and quality of MR. That is why I'm more likely to post Android-related stuff here in the "Alternative to iOS" sub-forum.

XDA is great for hacking, tweaking, and modding. Places like AndroidCentral are fine for general news, but in terms of an online community, not so much.

I am in complete agreement. Ignore my title / role here, I remain on MR because of the community, and while I may ruffle feathers at times by having to moderate, I am doing what I do because I support this community, and like how it remains objective / and non-hostile overall.

I think some sites let people get far more technical, and perhaps allow a bit more freedom of posting / sharing, but I like the balance here.

There is some cross-membership between here and AndroidCentral also. I've seen @Bkdodger posting in both places and I think there are a couple other similar screen names.
I am a reader, lurker but not someone who posts on that site. Since I still lean more Apple, despite having Android devices for ages, I like it here for posting, but have learned a lot in those forums.

I too am interested. Have a tablet or two that are Android and get the message from the Google Play Store that an app is not compatible with my version. I suppose that is not an issue with the iPad, but I've been an Android user since 2017 and have grown comfortable with it. iPad OS would have a significant learning curve for me. Than again, so would a new Mac. I've spent enough on Android tablets to get a entry level iPad. Guess I should kick myself.

Unfortunately (since you said no Reddit), Reddit is the most active. Then I'd say XDA followed by Android Central.

While I do have issues with Reddit, I still post on there. It does seem where most of the news can be consolidated though, which is good but I'm not really a fan of their posting format and think of it as a necessary evil.

Ain't nothing wrong with switching. I'm looking to replace a 4 year old iPad Air (1st gen., from 2013), that I got in used condition. I'm teetering between and iPad 9th gen (64 GB), or some Samsung tablet that I can get on sale from Costco, for half that price. Dumb thing is, it probably won't matter either way. I can afford to shell out for the pricier iPad, but I'd probably still be able to do everything I'd like on that Android tablet anyways.

Do you mean their nested format of threads and subthreads? I kind of like that. I can reply directly to a user's post, and skip the rest of the stuff on a thread. Only beefs with Reddit is..
1) if a thread and/or community gets too big, your topics and posts can get lost in the volume
2) my workplace blocks Reddit. I'd use my phone for light Reddit stuff, but it keeps insisting I use their app. I'm told that you just use web interface if you never tap on "get app" button, but it may be too late for me?

It's more the like/dislike function and how it's abused.

I personally think a person might be able to have both a basic Android tablet and a basic iPad.
I have 2 tablets (both Android) and use one while the other is changing.
Here in California, during the summer, we are often asked to reduce electricity use.
I charge my devices during the day.
I'm familiar with Android but realize the iPad rules.
It just does.

My biggest beef with Reddit is that if you post an unpopular opinion (i.e., if you say something that is blunt reality), you get down-voted a ton. It's like you have to agree with others and not rock the boat there. Reddit is not for me.

We all want to be in a community of people who generally agree with us. But we do have different tolerance levels for criticism and disapproval.

I say a lot of things here on MR that irritate many people and go contrary to the consensus opinions for an Apple-supportive community. But my intent is NOT to irritate people but to express my sincere opinions. I try to express my opinion respectfully (even when it is blunt reality) with the understanding that I don't have the only opinion that matters and will point out the validity in the opinions that differ from mine.

Given the things that I say, one would think that I'd constantly get down-voted into oblivion. But I don't. I attribute that to my general approach of being respectful. I don't do that perfectly... so there are times when I get down-voted. And most of the time I can trace it to HOW I said something, not WHAT.

That feedback is important to me. I'm not a "man pleaser" in that I need to have the approval of people, but I DO want to be an effective communicator of my thoughts and ideas. Voting on posts is one of the things that help me gauge that.

We for sure have bumped heads in the past, but never felt it was disrespectful, just different viewpoints, and in some cases I was educated regarding some facts I was unaware of.

I appreciate that, and have had many such experiences on this forum since I joined. I don't think it is a good idea for people to silo themselves into groups where people share only their opinion or viewpoint on a subject. Hell I used to be vehemently Anti-Android long ago.

What the heck happened to me! ;)

XDA is really good. But it is much more technically focused. For general Android news I prefer androidcentral.com
