I'd like To be able to create basic excel spreadsheets on the iPad. It doesn't have to be excel, but a program that does similar things. Does anything exist? Does the numbers app do this? From the pics it doesn't look like it does.

The number app on compatibility:

Works well with others.
Numbers on iPad lets you open spreadsheets created using iWork or Microsoft Office. So if someone emails you a Numbers or Excel file, you can easily import it into Numbers for iPad. To share your work, export your spreadsheet as a Numbers file for Mac or a PDF document, then email it to anyone. You can also upload it to iWork.com public beta so anyone on a Mac or PC can view your spreadsheet.

So you can import excel documents, but you can't export it as a excel document. You can export it as a numbers file for the mac or as a PDF file. And you can still upload it to iWork.com so anyone can view it.

Yes, Pages can export as .doc. Number can't for some reason. =/

So you can import excel documents, but you can't export it as a excel document.

Just export it to your Mac, and then save as an Excel file on the Mac.

Or alternatively, just use iWork.com. It's a pretty good service.
