Im sure I saw this somewhere but is was like an app that was a map but in 3d, where you walked down the sidewalk and it showed you where a local park was or zoo. Its pretty much exactly like Yelp's monocle but not just for restaurants. Anyone know what im talking about?

just by doing a quick search in the app store for "3d map"...there are couple that come up "YouCity 3D Map (NYC)" and "YouCity 3D Map (San Francisco)"

are you in one of those cities?

otherwise, is it absolutely necessary to have it in 3D? can you just use the Maps app that came on your phone to see what's around you? i dunno about the exact location you are, but mine shows me where parks, zoos, restaurants, etc. are.

your talking about augmented reality.

Google "iphone augmented reality" and take your pick

LAYAR is pretty clever, but I'm sure in the coming years there will be a gigantic improvement ( possibly spurred by Google? ) in AR
