I have a 2013 MacBook Air that I stopped updating the OS with the fear of it becoming slow and unusable. The question is: updating the system is the only way to have the new Apple Music App? I just switch from Spotify and I'm already thinking of going back, because iTunes is beyond horrible! I don't want to believe that Apple doesn't have a standalone Apple Music app for the previous systems...

You do realize that Apple Music on Catalina is basically iTunes with all non-music related features disabled, right? If you hate iTunes you will certainly hate Music as well.

A as for your question: nope, there isn't. Ever since Apple started bundling iTunes with macOS (which l believe started with Mojave) there is no way to update iTunes or Music independently of the OS.

It's not the same, and still not as fluid as the spotify app is :/

Then you're SOL, sorry bud! But you do have options! You could either:

a] Deal with iTunes
b] Deal with the Web-app
c] Upgrade OS
d] Switch back to Spotify

(and I guess e] listen on another device?)

I ended up going back to Spotify, can't deal with iTunes and Apple Music UI is not as friendly as Spotify.
Thanks for the answers!
