Is there an app I can download that close or shuts down other apps I forget to.. I know on the Droid they have one and it's called advanced task manager,,,

No - Apple wouldn't let that.

Yup.

It would be nice if Apple added a feature that could close all apps. I sometimes forget to do it, and at the end of the day I have to tap the "X" on 20 apps, just to shut them down. It would rock if a "Close All" option appearing. perhaps we will see it in a future update. Might not be until iOS 5 or something.

EDIT: Guys! Stop quoting me saying I don't need to close my apps. I already know that! I've already said it's a neat freak thing for me; I like to keep my multitasking dock clean to the apps I use most frequent. I know that apps that save their state don't slow me down, as well as apps that don't even have multitasking.

Closing your apps is generally not necessary - the OS will do it for you if it needs the memory.

True! Very few of my apps will slow me down when they are in the background. It's more of a neat-freak thing for me. I only like to have certain apps in the multitask dock.

Maybe a future option that allowed us to specify which apps quit after being closed, and which stay 'running'.

none of those apps are actually running
if they support state saving, their last state is saved in memory, but aside from that, all that bar is is a most recently launched apps bar

I know. See my above post. It's more of a neat-freak thing for me. However, some of my apps do run in the background lol. I use MotionX GPS, TuneIn Radio, etc. Both of those can run down battery life, especially when used at the same time. I try to close those ones when I'm not using them, as they do slow me down.

You idiots screamed for multitasking for years. Here's your damned multitasking. Told you it was unnecessary.

Stop worrying about it. Think of it like the Recently Used Applications list in OSX. iOS will handle everything in the same way iTunes and iPhoto manage your data without you having to worry about how.

Droid needs a task manager because background tasks on Android are using CPU time and memory space.

Press the Home button once if you prefer the old way where you had to pick every application from the Home screen. And, yes, eawmp1 is probably right.

No one (figuratively) seems to understand that multitasking is not used very often. An easy way to tell if an App is multitasking is look in the top menu bar. If you see an arrow or a Play icon then an App is multitasking. If not, then no App is running an API in the background (other than Apple Apps).

I manage to close 4 apps at a time from the taskbar.
YMMV, depending what size fingers you have!
Thanks! Never even thought of that! :p I can only manage to close 2 at a time with my wide fingers lol.

No need to be rude. And it isn't unnecessary; I find it very convenient being able to listen to my radio app in the background, rather than the default music player.

Agreed. Probably half of my apps don't even support multitasking, so they're just there as recent app shortcuts. However, I do have the few that do multitask (and I mean audio streaming & navigation).

why would you close your apps. They are just saved states which are not using battery. If you had a navagation symbol or music symbol at the top of your screen when on the home screen that they would be running in the background. Not having to close apps is one of the pros of the iphone multitasking.

I've said why I close my apps. I've said it many times already. I've had to edit my original post because everyone is quoting me without reading my other posts, which state the following:

I'll say it one last time; I like to close my apps that I'm not using because it is a neat freak thing for me. I realize they don't slow me down while in saved state. I just prefer to keep the multitasking dock limited to the apps I use most frequent: IM, radio, social networking, email, Safari, SMS, etc. (I have 120+ apps, so the multitasking dock can get out of control if I've opened a lot of apps without closing them. And yes, I realize that the most recent apps are the leftmost).
