^ Like all things Apple, nobody knows.

There's increasing evidence that Apple may replace the tv with something else entirely -- existing or to be announced.

- Introduction of iTunes LP yet no support for where it would make the most sense: on an tv
- Slew of launches today, without even a firmware update to tv
- No reference to tv as supported by the new Apple remote
- Reference of MacMini as an "Entertainment Center".
- Addition of a VESA mount for the new iMac. The 27" iMac could replace a bedroom TV + tv and it could be one in the line of larger iMac's to come

Apple will not give up the living room but the odds for an update to the tv seem to be getting slimmer with each new Apple announcement and the increasing gap between updates.

So.... if you want an tv, I'm sure Apple will support them for at least a few years if they discontinue the device: get one now. There's little point in waiting.

Apple TV?

Spoke with Apple today, ATV will be shipping in 1-2 weeks with the updated remote. When is the last time Apple had a remote that did not match the equipment? Does this seem odd?

How does an aluminum remote not match an aluminum set-top box? Or do you mean work with the equipment?

Edit: I just called the Apple Store sales line and the remote does indeed work with the Apple TV. The Rep. said she has been asked this quite a few times since it debuted yesterday. I told her they need to update their Web site.

So a out of data white Apple TV shipped with a sleak silver remote? I am not the most up to date decorator - but thats kind of lame. If anything - knowing Apple, they do things cutting edge, something old (older mac in general being white) and something current don't match.

I'm wondering if there is an update to the ATV coming, should I wait or buy now?

My prediction - Apple will introduce an updated AppleTV at the same media event as iTablet.. sometime in early 2010. What exactly that update will entail is anyone's guess, but I predict an all around hardware refresh along with v3.0 firmware.

That said - if you need an Apple TV now, buy it and don't worry about what may or may not be around the corner. Whatever Apple decides to do with Apple TV long term - the existing ones aren't just going to stop suddenly working. And you can always sell it on eBay later on - used Apple TV's sell very well.

Who said it would ship with the new remote in a week or two? I just called the Apple Store online and they said they didn't know anything about it.

called apple to verify 2X - 1800 my apple - new remotes will ship soon with apple tv. verified 2X

I called again after your last post, and they still didn't know either way. :)

They did, however, say that because I called to ask about it, they marked a note on my account to send the new remote if I bought the Apple TV today and they started shipping with the new remotes in a week or two.

It's all good, now... As long as they don't release an Apple TV hardware update before Christmas that is.
