Is there any disadvantage to backup to iCloud in comparison to a local backup?

I can choose to backup my iOS device to either iCloud or to the local hard drive.

Are there any disadvantages to backing up to iCloud?
Is there something that wouldn't be backed up to iCloud in comparison to a local backup? Or in other terms: if I lost my device today, would a new one restored from iCloud be identical to one restored from a local backup?

And if I choose to backup to iCloud, can I still sync with the local iTunes library to add new PDF books, ripped music etc.?

The only disadvantage is that you don't have the backup local, so you'll have to be online to restore from it. If you're not worried about that, then it's not a big difference.

And yes, you can continue to sync either wirelessly or wired while backing up to iCloud. The two functions aren't directly connected, even though the local backup usually occurred during the sync process.
