I am looking for a third-party app (free, or, more likely, realistically, paid) that supports lens swapping while recording (i.e., use the 1x optical lens or 5x optical lens, at my choosing, without hitting stop).
Blackmagic supports this, but it has its own other issues with 4K60 (and no auto-sensors for ISO/etc., making it a bit cumbersome to use).
The Apple Camera app supports this, but you can't force the lens swap -- Apple determines if it should lens swap or if it should digital zoom based on lighting. Moreover, the basic Camera app produces video output that is far inferior to paid apps like Filmic Pro or free apps like Blackmagic. The Apple Camera is also severely lacking many other basic video features available in third-party apps.
FilmicPro is great, has tons of other great video features, and seems to be the best you can get, but it doesn't support lens swap.. you're stuck with the lens you picked unless you stop recording.
Final Cut Camera doesn't support lens swap, and it's generally inferior to FilmicPro and Blackmagic in most ways.
Is there something else out there?
The Apple hardware is so good, but the software for video recording is really letting me down.
