Sorry for asking a redundant question, but I really need to know.
I upload a lot of photos each night, and I would love to be able to close my lid and let the machine upload while I sleep. =)

It's a bad idea because of the heat that will come out of your mac, it may damage the display.

Try just sleeping the display or throwing a black tshirt over it maybe?

allison.

As far as I know you can only keep it awake using a bluetooth keyboard when it's closed....people do this when using their MacBooks on external monitors.

What's wrong with letting the screensaver kick in and the screen going into power saving mode? The hard drive will remain active and no harm will befall your screen!

both apple laptop lines are designed to run in closed-lid mode. i did it with my macbook (when i owned one), and i do it now with my macbook pro. you need an external mouse, keyboard and display to do it, but there are alternative methods to keeping your macbook awake with the lid closed. to the op, i think insomniax is what you're looking for.

I've read that the air intake for the Macbook CPU fan is through the gaps between the keys - which if true means that you definately can't run it with the screen shut.

The hot air come out by the hinge, so it is possible to do this. The laptop is designed for closed lid operation.
