Pages 4.3 was the last good version of Pages (iWork). It let you select non-contiguous text by holding down the command key. You know, just like you can do in TextEdit or even Stickies? Makes office work a hell of a lot easier.

anyways, is there ANY way to get this software running on Apple Silicon? I'm willing to emulate or virtualize older versions of macOS (I think the last one that supports Pages 4.3 is Mojave, 10.14). I just need a way to run this software since Apple CBA'd to add back features they removed years ago.

I haven’t tried it but I looked into it a bit for similar reasons. I believe you can virtualize an earlier version of MacOS in Parallels then you can run your 32 bit apps that way. I gave up because it was to much effort for what I needed.

Write to Apple and tell them to bring it back. It was a feature I liked a lot as well.

Alternatively pick up an old intel Mac and use it as a dedicated writer?

Nice to see another person appreciate that gem known as Pages 4.3. I still have it and use it on Mac OS Mojave.

You CAN run OSX High Sierra in a VirtualBox (free) virtual machine. I have that running on my Lenovo Yoga 6. Even though the Yoga 6 has only 8GB of RAM, it runs High Sierra extremely well. iWork '09 works well on it.

I have written to them literally hundreds of times about this. It's changed nothing unfortunately. Maybe I should up my efforts?

You're not wrong.

Maybe I'm getting to them. My username here is the same as my username on the Apple discussion forums. I've had an account there for years. I just posted again and got this chuckling message:

Inappropriate or offensive, huh? To say that Steve Jobs would have held Apple to a higher standard?

Since you are on an M1 virtualization likely won't work. Mohave doesn't support the M1.

You can as long as that version supports the M1, starting with Monterey. Haven't tested though.

I believe the Lenovo is Intel so doesn't apply.

Try to use this:

You should be able to use/sign old Pages apps with that. I for example am using Aperture under Monterey on a M1 Mac mini. Or older iTunes versions too.

What I miss most about the older iWork apps was the way you could spread out control palattes across the screen, just like in "pro" apps like InDesign or Illustrator. Now they've got everything tucked into sidebars within sidebars, which is a serious drag on productivity.

No. Parallels on Apple Silicon (M1) (ARM) processor can only virtualise ARM operating systems.

No. HS is Intel only, so can't virtualise in an M1 processor.

No. Sorry, but you have bought the latest hardware, so you must expect to be able to run only the latest software.

You could try Nisus Writer Express. It is Apple Silicon-native, has a 14 day trial and saves in RTF. Very powerful little word processor and it can select non-contiguous text. I don't use Pages 12 for this very reason. Also, Nisus Writer does a better job of formatting web-copied text from Safari than most any other word processor I've tried.
